Red dots with Vortex Venom footprint

The Vortex Venom footprint, many times also named as Docter footprint or Noblex footprint, is one of the oldest footprints on the market.

You will find red dots with full size dimensions using this footprint most often. 

As this footprint is in a way competing with the RMR footprint - which also works well with full size red dots - you will not find that many red dots using it. However, this one still belongs amongs the 3 - 4 most popular footprints on the market. 

In this category you will find available red dots that share the same Vortex Venom footprint. That means that all red dots in this category will work on red dot mount or plate that uses the Venom footprint.  

Why is footprint important?

Because footprint determines the compatibility of the red dot. 

If you want to install a red dot to your pistol - wheter it is optics ready pistol or classic pistol - you need to know what footprint does the red dot have. Based on the footprint you will be able to find matching adapter plate [for Optics Ready models] or adapter mount [for classic models]. 

Which brands use the Vortex Venom footprint?

Although this red dot footprint is named "Vortex Venom footprint", you can find it on many other red dots: from Sightmark, to Vector Optics, US Optics, ADE Advanced Optics, etc.

This footprint was actually not even developed by Vortex Venom - it was developed by Docter / Noblex. But since the Venom red dot was much more popular, we renamed it to the Venom footprint. So, if you ever encounter "Noblex" or "Docter" footprint, its the same as Vortex Venom footprint.

Can you mount red dot with Vortex Venom footprint to your gun?

That depends whether or not there is existing optics ready plate or red dot mount for that very gun, and for the specific footprint.

Just remember that

• optics ready plates are designed for Optics Ready guns, and
• red dot mounts are designed for classic guns and work as a replacement of rear sight.
